The Importance of Being Thankful
INTRO
Good morning! I am deacon Angelo Volpi and I am a newly ordained deacon at CTK. While you were on summer vacation I was ordained here on this very spot by Bishop Antony Taylor. This is my first time to give you a homily to students of CTK and I am thrilled to be with you.
WHAT
Today the Gospel shows us a Typical day of Jesus.
Can anyone tell me what was Jesus doing in the gospel?
Was it an easy day? Or a busy one?
Jesus preached in the Synagogue, then he went to heal Simon’s mother’s law from a severe fever. By the way, does anyone know who Simon is? Anyone? PETER.
Then the word got out that he was able to heal Peter's mother in law and the whole day and following night people kept coming to this house with their loved one asking Jesus to heal them. Some were deformed, some had diseases, And Jesus laid his hands on each of them and healed them.
He healed people the whole day and the whole night untill daybreak. Untill the next morning.
After a full, day and night healing people what did he do? I would have gone to bed! Where did Jesus do? He went to the desert, a silent place, a quiet place. Some translation says, He went to PRAY.
I imagine that he was reflecting on that amazing day he had.
How do you think Jesus was feeling? Happy, joyful, tired that he was able to help so many people. Thankful.
He was probably thanking the Father for all the good things he was able to do. All the people he was able to touch with the laying of his hands.
SO WHAT
Jesus took the time out of his busy schedule to pray and thank the Father for all the things that happened in his day.
Because all we have. all we are able to do comes from God. Our friends, our family, our achievements, our big joys and little joys.
NOW WHAT
In a few minutes we will go and receive the eucharist. As you line up, ask the Lord to show you all the things you should be thankful for.
